As per a study carried out by Corning, durability is one of the most crucial considerations that users in the three of the largest smartphone markets — China, India, and the United States — take into consideration when buying a smartphone. Moreover, it is claimed to be a factor that is twice as important as some of the features like the screen size and camera quality. Taking these factors into consideration, with the Gorilla Glass Victus, the company has decided to focus not just on making the glass either scratch or drop resistant, but instead, making it so to be able to withstand both scratches and drops. In terms of test results, Corning claims, in its lab tests, the Gorilla Glass Victus managed to achieve a drop performance up to 2 meters on a hard, rough surface. In contrast, the aluminosilicate glasses from its competitors fail when dropped from less than 0.8 meters, as per the company. Moreover, Gorilla Glass Victus also surpasses the current standard, Gorilla Glass 6, with up to twice the improvement in scratch resistance, and it also outperforms other competitor glasses with up to four times better scratch resistance.

Back when Corning announced Gorilla Glass 6, it brought in improvements to the drop resistance and made the Gorilla Glass 6 twice as better as Gorilla Glass 5 in terms of drop resistance. At that time, the company did not offer much improvement in terms of scratch resistance in comparison to Gorilla Glass 5. However, with the latest iteration — for the first time ever in its Gorilla Glass family — Corning is claiming to significantly improve both drop and scratch performance to address consumer’s demand and offer better durability.

Corning Gorilla Glass Victus: Availability

In terms of availability, Corning has announced that Samsung will be the first company to feature Gorilla Glass Victus on its smartphones. However, as of now, it has not yet shed light on the timeline. We guess the upcoming Galaxy Note 20 will probably be the first smartphone to come with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.
